The Writing Begins

I’m writing my first book.

It’s weird starting a book. I don’t know what I’m doing, but I’m excited.

I also know that it probably won’t be that great, but I’m going to do it anyways.

I spent the last couple of months agonizing over my outline. I wanted to know everything that was going to happen and who would be involved. The number of chapters, what will happen in each chapter, the ending, the settings, the twist, the krabby patty secret formula. I spent hours looking at different name generators trying to find the “perfect” protagonist name.

But as the month was ending, all I had was a bunch of disjointed plot details and a couple of character profiles. All I wanted to do was write. I didn’t care about any of it. And I knew my readers wouldn’t either.  So, I went back to basics.  I deleted my main character’s name and instead asked, *how will she be different by the end of the book? I know what starts her journey and who she grows into by the end, but how she gets there, I don’t know for sure. I plotted out the early chapters to get me started and gave myself flexibility in case the story eventually feels it should go in a different direction, but by the time I was done, I was just happy I wanted to write my book again.

Which is what I’ll be doing. For this book and the other stories that will follow.

(*btw: I obviously asked a few more questions than that, but I felt it sounded more profane if I worded that way)
