Mind Farm

Lil shortie for you all this week.

When there’s an extended wait or just a moment that you have to yourself, do you find that you retreat to a perfect world of your own making? What does it consist of? I felt like sharing mine this week.

The countryside of Iceland, there’s moss-covered mountains and a waterfall in the distance. It’s early morning. For breakfast, I have some banana bread while walking through my stable to greet my alpacas. The night before, I finished up wool blankets and socks, and I make the drive to my cozy store where one of my employees is currently restocking recently dyed yarn. I sell things that I make on my farm here. Blankets, sweaters, socks and more made from wool we spin into yarn ourselves. We also sell dyed and undyed wool and yarns, and occasionally goat’s milk and cheeses. I greet her and put out the newly knitted wares. We chat for a moment about her family and I stay for a bit to see a few loyal customers before I make my way back to my farm. As I drive up, I see my ornery llama named Hennessy causing grief with one farmhand. I leave them be to go hang out with my 4 goats, particularly my favorite, James Buchanan Barnes, or Bucky. She’s also the friendliest.

After spending most of the day caring for my animals and spinning some yarn, I decide to end the day early. I decide to treat my employees to a nice meal. We pull the grill out and cook, everyone relaxes, and a couple of people start up a game of cards. I invite my employees from the shop, and they bring drinks. Hours later, we feast on grilled meat and vegetables, we joke and sing with each other. Into the night, a comfortable lull falls among us. We clean up, and I make tea for everyone. Eventually, everyone makes their way home. I say goodnight to my animals and spend the rest of my night getting through a couple of chapters on the book I’m reading, trying my best not to get distracted by the view from my window. I fail miserably.

So yeah, if we ever meet and you feel like I’m not giving you my full attention, well, it’s because the alpacas need tending to.
