I had a busy week, so I didn’t get a chance to get as much work done on this next chapter, so I’m using today to do a check-in with you all. The good thing is that next week should feature two parts.
How has quarantine affected you and your writing? I’ve noticed that I get disappointed in my writing more. Even though I have more time dedicated to writing and getting it done, I get discouraged during the writing process. It happens when I drop key points because I feel like I don’t have the skillset to convey it properly. I end up fixating on those errors and end up spending most of my writing time sulking.
I do this in my everyday life, focusing on my inadequacies while ignoring my strengths. I guess it never occurred to me that this could translate into my writing. I also think it’s one of the reasons I struggle with injecting any type of vulnerability into my work. It sucks to think I’m holding back on my progress as a writer due to my emotional issues.
All of this free time has put a spotlight on things I thought I had gotten over or come to understand. I hate that I still get stuck in a self-deprecating train of thought, but the only thing I can do now is to confront it each time it happens. That’s the good thing I can take away from this. Not everyone has the ability to see areas in which they can improve, and I won’t waste that. I can’t get better at writing if I’m too afraid of myself because all anyone would ever see is a version of the writer I created and not me. I want the world to see me.
This year has been taxing, physically, mentally, emotionally. I hope all of you have been learning to more about how to better care for yourselves and the value of your own company. Something good will come from all of this, even if we have to build it for ourselves.
Love and happy writing🌱
